After taking a 4-0 lead after six innings, the Boston Red Sox could hear the fat Yankees footsteps creeping up from behind. Two New York runs in the seventh, another one in the ninth. Then, a runner on second with two outs, the winning run at the plate, and when that batter connected, the ball went deep into center. . . and Rafaela caught it for the third out to end the game, 4-3, Boston.
Fourth straight win over the Yankees. Who knew beating them would be this easy? Aaron Judge, the announcers' dream child, went 0-4 with three strikeouts. I've bee saying it for years, but my god, these Yankees really do suck.
Hunter Dobbins went six shutout innings and got the win, his fourth.
The Sox return to .500 (36-36) and are 7½ out of first place - still closer to last than first - but now are only one game out in the Wild Card standings.
Game 3 is tomorrow (1:35). I'm not going to jinx it and say anything more, other than the pitching matchup has Brayan Bello (2-1, 3.96) going up against Max Fried (9-1, 1.84). We had managed to avoid Fried in our series down in the Bronx last weekend, and Bello didn't get to face New York in that series either.
