Red Sox 2, Yankees 1

Third straight win, and third win in a row over the Yankees going back to last weekend.

Night of the two Garretts: Garrett Crochet went 8.1 innings, almost a full Maddox, giving up only one run on four hits and fanning seven batters. After the Yankees scored a run in the top of the ninth, Garrett Whitlock shut out New York in the tenth and got the win. He's now 5-0 on the season because Narváez singled to deep left center in the bottom of the tenth, scoring ghost runner David Hamilton.

These low-scoring, extra-inning games are exactly the type Boston kept on losing so far this season. It's nice to be on the winning end of one of these games.

We're still 8½ games behind New York in the AL East, but the good news is we're now only 2 games back in the Wild Card race. It's all about baby steps right now - there's a lot of season still ahead.

Game 2 of this weekend home series is tomorrow night - Hunter Dobbins (3-1, 4.20) versus the formidable Carlos Rodón (8-4, 2.87).
