Rays 7, Red Sox 5

The Res Sox hit two home runs in the eighth and went through three Tampa Bay pitchers, and Celeb Durban, one of the home run hitters in the 8th, hit another in the ninth, but it didn't matter - Boston lost again, because that's what losers do. They lose.

The got swept by the Rays in Florida and are 13½ back from first, but by giving the otherwise sagging Rays some wins, at least they kept the Yankees from taking sole possession of first place. New York fans are going to be bad enough when the Knicks win the NBA Finals - we don't need a first-place Yankee team adding to their boasting.

Boston's off today (ah, no gut-wrenching losses to suffer through!) to travel back to Fenway for a three-game series with the Texas Rangers (33-34). The Rangers will probably open with Jack Leiter (3-5, 4.69). the Sox might as well put in some panhandler from Kenmore Square and save some money, because they'll probably lose again anyway.

God, I hate this year!
