With 2:46 left in the game, Derrick White hit a 9-foot fadeaway jumper from the left baseline and pulled the Celtics to within two points, 104-102, of the Pistons, who had led by as many as 10 points in the fourth. After a couple Detroit free throws and a Wade Cunningham field goal. White hit a three from the right, but another Cunningham FG and two more FTs ended the game.
Can't win 'em all.
The Celtics outscored the Pistons by eight in the first quarter, but the Pistons outscored the Celtics in the next three. Mr. Brown dropped 34 points but was only 1-of-5 from outside. Mr. White finished the game with 31 points and 5-of-12 shooting on threes, but despite his effort and late-game heroics, the team was -12 when he was on the court (they were +9 during Hugo González' 16:28).
The Celtics drop to 15-11, 3½ back from the Knicks (who play for the NBA Cup tonight). The Celtics' next game is Friday night when they host the Miami Heat (14-12).
