Not that it matters. The first Selection Committee rankings come out on Tuesday and the AP Poll will instantly become irrelevant. College football is now all about making the 12-team playoffs, and it's the Committee, not the AP, who determines who's in and who's out.
The top seven teams in this week's poll is the exact same and in the exact same order as last week (Ohio State, Indiana, ATM, 'Bama, the Dawgs, the Ducks, and the Rebels). Georgia Tech ended their improbable win streak and took their first loss yesterday, a 46-36 defeat by NC State, and fell from No. 8 to No. 16. The Bulldogs play Tech on Nov. 28. Vandy suffered their second loss of the season, 34-31 to Texas, and fell from No. 9 to No. 15. Georgia plays Texas Nov. 15.
Miami fell from No. 10 to No. 18 thanks to a pair of timely Carson Beck interceptions. He turned the ball over in the second quarter, allowing SMU to tie the game up, and then he turned the ball over in OT, allowing SMU to win the game. I don't think he and his Hurricanes are making the playoffs this year.
No. 14 Louisville (7-1) beat unranked Virginia Tech and kept the lineal championship belt and Georgia's two championship rings. Thank whatever pagan god you believe in that the Hokies didn't get their hands on those jewels Louisville plays unranked California (5-4) next.
Finally, I have to note that unranked Auburn lost to Kentucky, 10-3, yesterday and as a result Auburn fired head coach Hugh Freeze. Alert readers will recall that I don't like Mr. Freeze, but when a man loses his job, his livelihood, I have to say . . . fuck that guy. And fuck Auburn for hiring him. Some "Christian" AD will probably hire him, eventually, and fuck that guy, too.
I still don't like Mr. Freeze.
