BU 3, Merrimack 2

After getting swept by No. 6 Maine last weekend, the No. 12 BU Terriers were in no mood to fuck around with unranked Merrimack, especially in front of a home crowd. The Warriors, on the other hand, smelled blood on the ice, and thought they had an opportunity for something of an upset. The result was a 2-2 tie after three periods with scores by BU's Jonathan Morello in the first and Jack Murtagh in the third. Twenty-one seconds into the overtime, Cole Hutson scored the game-winning goal, using a Merrimack defender as a screen.

The Terriers are 4-5-1 overall and 2-3-0 in Hockey East play. They pick up two points for last night's OT win and have 6 on the season - three for the win over UConn, two for last night's OT win, and one for the OT loss to Maine on Halloween. They're behind Northwestern, Maine, and Merrimack in the Hockey East standings and are in a five-way scrum with four other teams with six points each.

The weekend series moves to North Andover for game two tonight.
