Dylan Cease (4-10, now 5-10) beat Brayan Bello (8-5, now 8-6). Both starting pitchers lasted into the 6th inning, and both recorded seven strikeouts. However, Bello gave up 5 runs on six hits and Cease gave up only two runs on four hits, and that was that. Back-to-back losses in San Diego. Let's move on.
It's Crochet Day! The Sox are in Houston now for a three-game series against the Astros. The series starts with Boston star Garrett Crochet (13-4, 2.24) pitching against the Stros' Cristian Javier (3-1, 3.89) making his first start since May 21.
We swept Houston in Fenway the weekend before least, so they'll be looking for revenge. But if we keep our heads up and pitches inside, we should be able to leave Texas with our dignity intact. And after this series is over, the grueling stretch of schedule since the All Star break will finally be done and for the rest of August we'll be playing shitty teams - three in Miami (57-61), six against Baltimore (53-65), three against the slumping Yankees (3-7 in their last 10), and three against Pittsburgh (51-68).
