Those pesky Jays! Just as the Sox were gaining some traction and the Yankees were starting to slip, Toronto comes to Boston and wins the first two of a four-game series. With the win, the Jays (7-5) take first place while the Sox (6-6) fall to third behind the stinkin' Yankees (6-5).
Starting pitcher Garrett Crochet kept the Jays scoreless for five innings before giving up a pair of runs in the sixth and loading the bases. Reliever Zack Kelly came on with two outs, but gave up two more runs, both credited to Crochet, before he got the third out.
The Sox answered with one run on the seventh, but that was it for the night. Toronto scored two more in the eighth and that was that.
Should Boston win the next two games and tie up the series, they'd pass the Jays in the standings and possibly even move into first, provided the Yankees keep on losing. Game three starts at 6:45.
