Matt Rutherford is now north of Svalbard, all the way up at latitude 80° 58' N. He's going to try and reach 81°, but he needs to advance some 80 miles further east before the polar ice cap allows him that far north.
After rounding Svalbard, he will head back south across the Barents Sea toward Russia. It's unclear whether he intends to cross over the northern tip of the Novaya Zemlya archipelago (or if that's even possible with the ice), or sail closer to the Russian mainland south of the islands.
Tamara Klink has been harbored in Nome for the past week. She hasn't said if she's just enjoying the Alaskan hospitality, or repairing something on her ship, or waiting for the ice to clean on whichever arctic route she intends to take home to Brazil - an eastward passage over Canada through the Northwest passage or a westward passage over Russia through the Northeast Passage.
Ella Hibbert is still counting the days in Saint Paul Island in the Bering Sea before she's cleared to sail in Russian water through the Northeast Passage.
