Life just got a whole lot harder in the NBA's Atlantic Division.
The Knicks won the NBA Finals in five, and marched undefeated through the playoffs before that single-loss series. They're now officially a power to be reckoned with in the division, the conference, and the whole NBA.
To further the agony, the Sixers, who last season came back from a 3-1 deficit to eliminate the Celtics from the first round of the playoffs in seven, still have Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecombe to support their championship hopes. Then to add insult to injury, they acquired Jaylen Brown from Boston, breaking the heart of many a Celtics fan. And today, it was announced that they won the bidding war and will sign LeBron James to a two-year contract.
Sure, James is now 41 and his best playing days are behind him. But he's still the league’s all-time leading scorer, a four-time NBA champion, and four-time MVP. His basketball knowledge, combined with Embiid's shooting, Brown's athleticism, and Maxey and Edgecombe's skills, are going to be a challenge for the Celtics, the Knicks, and any other NBA team playing them.
But at least we picked up Paul George, lol.
