Fuck Alabama. Fuck their fucking hubris. On fourth and 2 on their own 12, down 21-7, they decide that they're just that good (despite all evidence to the contrary the entire game) and decide to go for it. No respect for the Georgia defense, all overinflated confidence in their own abilities. Alabama QB Ty Simpson throws an incomplete pass and turns the ball over on downs deep in their own territory. Three plays later, Georgia scores a TD and takes a 28-7 lead.
Alabama was shut out the first three quarters and scored only one TD, and even that sole score relied on 30 yards of Georgia penalties and some fortuitous reffing. They finished the game with -3 rushing yards (yes, negative yardage after four quarters of play).
The No. 3 ranked (for now) Georgia Bulldogs beat the No. 9 (and falling) Alabama Crimson Tide and are the 2025 SEC Champions. It was Coach Kirby Smart's only second win over 'Bama in nine tries, but I'll make a bold prediction - this game was a jinx breaker, the kryptonite's gone, and Alabama will never beat a Kirby Smart team again. The dynasty's over.
Yet despite Alabama's miserable performance, I've already seen commentators on the tube saying they still deserve to be in the playoffs, that Championship games shouldn't count against a team, no matter how poorly they perform. Hey, numb-nuts, if your team can't perform well in a conference championship game, why should the Selection Committee think you'll perform better in the College Football Playoffs?
Part of me hopes they do make the Playoffs, though - if we have to face them a third time this season, it will be an easy playoff win for the Dawgs. But if they're in, then Notre Dame is out, and since the Irish have the lineal championship belt and Georgia's 2021 and 2022 National Championship rings, I want them in the playoffs so we can win them back more than I want an easy, third win over Alabama.
Anyhow, enough about them. Georgia scored four TDs, the first three unanswered, and Gunner Stockton finished the game with 156 passing yards and 39 rushing yards, three passing TDs, and no interceptions. Nate Frazier rushed for 52 yards and one TD.
No matter what else happens in the other conference finals, Georgia should get a first-round bye in the CFP and not have to play another game until New Year's Day or New Year's Eve. Plenty of time to rest and recuperate.
We're SEC Champions, baby! We're going to the Playoffs! Life is good in downtown Athens tonight.
