And then the Pat's 10-game win streak ended.
Losses happen in the NFL and all streaks eventually end. It's a tough, competitive league and it's not realistic to think that a team that finished in last place a year ago would go undefeated this season. But even with the loss, New England is still 11-3 and in first place in the AFC East, one up on the Bills. They split the season series with Buffalo, a Superbowl contender. Nothing's been clinched yet, but only a fool thinks they won't make the playoffs and probably still win the Division title.
Yes, the blew a 21-0 lead - they got off to a fast start and it took the Bills a full half to figure out how to contain us. Yes, they allowed five consecutive Buffalo TD drives. Ouch. And the officiating was horrible - the Patriots got hit with seven penalties, including two pass interference calls that led to Buffalo TDs, for 65 yards, while the Bills only had 2 penalties for a total of 15, despite obvious holds throughout the game. All that, and the Patriots only lost by four.
Maye finished the day with 165 yards passing and 43 yards rushing. He rushed for two TDs in the first quarter, and in the third, when TreVeyon Henderson (148 yards) rushed for a 65-yard TD, his second of the game, Maye ran right along beside him, throwing a key block way downfield that allowed Henderson to score. Maye leads the NFL in percent complete (71.5%). and is second in quarterback rating (111.9), yards per attempt (8.8), yards per game (262.5), and total yards (3.412). Three other QBs are in first in those categories where Maye is second.
Next up is a Sunday night game against the Baltimore Ravens (7-7) and then the lowly Jets (3-7), before the season finale against Miami (6-7). We'll be fine.
We've got this.
