Reds 8, Red Sox 4

It's hard to win a game, even with a 3-0 lead, when Greg Weissert gives up a grand-slam home run in the seventh.

Our starting pitchers depleted, we went with all relievers in this game, first with with Brennan Bernardino, who lasted only 1.2 innings before reaching his limit. But the strategy worked, at least at first, with the first three relievers giving up only three hits and recording five strikeouts before Weissert gave up the grand salami in the seventh.

We were so close, just one game, to reaching .500, mediocrity, and then, bang!, a four-run blast in the seventh.

The Sox are off today, but will travel to D.C. to play the Nationals (36-50) on the Fourth of July (11:00 am).
