The Boston Celtics lost to the Orlando Magic in their last road game of the season. However, their 33-8 road record this season is the best in franchise history and they came within one win of tying the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors for the best road record in the history of the NBA.
"You can't say they didn't try" is the phrase people often use to console themselves. But in this case, they didn't try. Joe Mazzulla sat all the Celtics starters - Tatum, Brown, White, Porzingis, Holiday, even big Al Horford - and played the bench for the entire game. Baylor Scheierman and Payton Pritchard both led the team with 15 points, and Pritchard's 10 assists gave him a double double.
Strategically, Boston has nothing to gain from another win, but everything to lose if a starter gets injured right before the playoffs. Season road records don't win playoff games . . . but it still would have been nice to beat the Warriors at something.
Two home games left to the regular season, both against Charlotte for some reason. First one's Friday, 7:30 pm.
